Objective

The goal is to create an experience where the user can feel that they’re watching an event with friends and family in the same space without hampering or intruding upon the actual playback experience of the content.
As the name suggests, it’s supposed to be a WatchParty, not a video call with a shared screen.

Concept

Adding a calling and chat functionality to an already stimulating match or fixture can often overwhelm the user with the sheer amount of input they’re receiving from multiple sources. The key design directives followed in this approach:

Do not overwhelm the user

• Context: Only show contextually appropriate data

• Content: Content comes first, it is the driving force behind the feature

• Accessibility: Use appropriate input methods to promote accessibility

Understand the hardware:

• Make logical decisions and use as input/sources to reduce the number of decisions a user has to take thereby reducing the cognitive load on the user
